About APP

Our Mission

The Asia Policy Program (APP) was established in 2021 as a joint initiative of the Clements Center for National Security and the Strauss Center for International Security and Law. It addresses the region's increasing importance in global politics, American foreign policy, and American national security.

The Asia Policy Program's mission is to foster research, dialogue, and education about policy-relevant developments and questions in the Indo-Pacific. We support these activities through our speaker series and book talks, in which scholars and policymakers join the campus community to share their work and discuss its implications for current policy debates.

We also serve as a hub connecting the Asia-related work that occurs throughout the University of Texas at Austin. APP faculty affiliates teach a wide range of Asia-related courses across the University of Texas at Austin’s schools and departments.

The Asia Policy Program is currently directed by Sheena Chestnut Greitens. A list of our affiliates appears here.
