Applications Open! — The Clements Center’s Summer Beyond Borders Program in Vietnam

News | October 30, 2026

Applications are open for the Clements Center for National Security’s Summer Beyond Borders Program in Vietnam, a two-week, fast-paced exploration of the rich history and geopolitical dynamics of Vietnam in partnership with Dr. Mark Lawrence, Walter Prescott Webb Chair in History. The program will run from May 23-June 8, 2027, and will introduce students to Vietnam through a historical lens, starting with the colonial legacies that can still be seen in Vietnam’s architecture, cuisine, and language. Students also examine the impact of the Second World War and final defeat of French colonialism in the 1950s before turning their attention to the war fought by the United States in the 1960s and 1970s. More details can be found here.

Applications are due by December 3, 2026 at 10:59PM central time. Note, undergraduate and Master’s students who are NOT graduating in May 2027 are eligible and the program will incur a cost of $2,500. The Clements Center may offer limited financial assistance to a few qualified students.

Students who are interested can apply through the Clements Center website. Those with questions can reach out to Kelli Ray, kelli.ray@austin.utexas.edu.
