In “The Failures of Russian Aerospace Forces in the Russia-Ukraine War and the Future of Air Power,” Jaganath Sankaran investigates the reasons behind the failures of the Russian Aerospace Forces to acquire air superiority over Ukraine in the early stages of the 2022 war. He offers three causal explanations: (1). Russian military history and its (distorting) effects on Russian air power; (2) Russian intelligence failures and hubris; (3) Ukrainian resolve and innovativeness. The conclusion explores implications of these findings for air power during a time of renewed great power competition.
